Designing Resilient Digital Heritage for the Far Future

Dr. Neha Gupta is a co-Applicant on a New Research Frontier Fund (Exploration) funded project, Reconstructive Preservation: Designing Resilient Digital Heritage for the Far Future. The project examines and experiments with a range of techniques needed to ensure digital representations of cultural heritage remain intelligible and accessible over extremely long timeframes—100 to 10,000 years.

This project introduces reconstructive preservation—a novel approach that treats digital objects not as static archives but as artifacts to be reinterpreted and reconstructed by future generations, even if degraded. Dr. Gupta will work with Dr. Peter Dawson, Dr. John Aycock, Dr. Faramarz Samavati (UCalgary), Dr. Katie Biittner (MacEwan University) and Dr. Christine Schreyer (UBC Okanagan).
